My research focuses on the identification of genes that influence the risk of common congenital malformations, including facial clefts, defects of the neural tube and heart malformations, in humans. This work includes consideration of the roles played by both the maternal and embryonic genotypes as well as gene-environment interactions. Currently, I am working on a family-based genetic association study of spina bifida, and several studies of congenital heart malformations.
