Research Interests
I am currently working at the division of Cardiothoracic Transplantation & Circulatory Support, Department of Surgery, Baylor College of Medicine, with a full time Faculty appointment (Assistant Professor) to continue basic science, clinical data science and translational research in the field of heart failure, heart transplant, circulatory support and other cardiac surgeries. After joining Baylor, I have established two prospective studies as a PI with special emphasis on basic science research on mechanism of postoperative complications (kidney dysfunction, infection, stroke, bleeding) in cardiac patients having a mechanical circulatory device support and thromboembolic complications in other cardiac surgical patients undergoing either robotic assisted or conventional bypass or valvular procedures. I have a strong collaboration with other Baylor Departments such as Department of Medicine, Division of Nephrology, Rice University, Computer Science Department, Rice D2K Lab etc with multiple fundings. I have also established a wet lab to conduct all basic science studies. Currently I am leading the translational basic science research on DCD heart under OCS support in US scenario at the division. I have extensive biomedical research experience in the field of basic/translational pathophysiology research related to critical illness such as cardiac failure, stroke, shock and trauma, with expertise in innovative methods and data science related to the study with special emphasis on kidney dysfunction, infection, bleeding, thrombosis, inflammation, oxidative stress, mitochondrial dysfunction, microbiota and exosome, immune function etc. I am also experienced with molecular physiology of stroke and neurobiology involving human as well as small/large animal models. My research has provided some of the most comprehensive studies resulting ground-breaking discoveries in platelet/leukocyte biology which are helping to advance science and improve the health of millions of people with heart failure and cardiovascular disease. I have approximately a decade’s worth of experience in the field of human as well as animal biology. During the period of 2007 to 2011, I have successfully completed many research projects as a PI, Co-PI and Co-I. I have completed my postdoctoral training in the Department of Surgery of University of Maryland and University of Louisville (UofL) and subsequently appointed Assistant Professor of Surgery at UofL in 2015. During my last 12 years of biomedical research career, I published more than 60 original research articles and conference abstracts (45 peer-reviewed papers: 38 first authored and 13 as senior authored); all of which explaining my productivity in diverse field of science. I received several prestigious young investigator awards from different societies in USA. I am currently serving as reviewer, section editor and/or editorial board member of several high impact journals (Blood, JHLT, JACC, ASAIO etc.).
