Most of time, most of bugs in gut nourish our intestinal epithelium and communicate with the epithelial cells via special languages called signaling pathways, their smooth, gentle and effective communications keep us healthy mentally and physically. Once the balance is disturbed by the pathogenic bugs, this may result in cellular dysfunction, epithelium damage and even cancer. To protect gut epithelium, our mission is to investigate the roles of probiotics (e.g. Lactobacillus reuteri) and their products (e.g. Histamine) as well as the downstream signals in competing with excessive or wrong signals induced by pathogenic bugs.
