Isabelle Bauer, Ph.D. has focused her work on understanding how brain abnormalities, genetic polymorphisms, and mood disturbances give rise to the cognitive impairments observed in mood disorders. Using neuroimaging techniques, including fMRI and DTI, neuropsychological instruments, and physiological measurements (e.g. heart rate, skin conductance), she studies how emotions affect cognitive abilities and the role of attention and memory in therapeutic outcomes. Dr. Bauer is also involved in research on lifestyle interventions such as nutrition and exercise for individuals with bipolar disorder. Her publications have so far laid the groundwork for the proposed research by providing evidence of neural mechanisms underlying neurocognitive functioning, and by characterizing the link between cognitive function and affective disturbances in mood disorders.
