Research Interests

Dr. Sanner is the director of the UTHealth Center for Clinical and Translational Sciences (CCTS) Biobank and the faculty project lead of the University of Texas System Health Biobank Consortium. She received her BSN from Kent State University in Ohio and her MSN and PhD from UTHealth School of Nursing. Dr. Sanner has authored numerous journal and media articles on topics related to bio-behavioral cardiovascular risk factors and genetic biobanking. Her interest in bio-behavioral disease risk factors results from over 17 years of experience engaging in studies focused on cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk, including a multicenter project that resulted in a large-scale genetic biobank of bio-behavioral data from high-risk patients living with cardiovascular diseases, stroke, or cancer. Specifically, Dr. Sanner's research has focused on identifying and supporting patients with cardiovascular diseases who may be vulnerable to the neurobiological effects of mood disorders placing them at risk for mortality and disability. Dr. Sanner's research aims to contribute to a broader, bio-behavioral understanding of modifiable, nontraditional disease risk factors, including symptoms of mood disorders, in patients and informal caregivers living within the confines of chronic disease states.
