Dr. Watson is a professor emeritus in the Biochemistry & Molecular Biology Dept. at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, Texas. She received her PhD in Cell Biology from Baylor College of Medicine and completed postdoctoral fellowships in molecular biology of estrogen actions (at the National Institute for Medical Research, London England) and androgen actions (at the Population Council, Rockefeller Univ., NY). Her general focus as a cell biologist has been on the interacting signaling pathways that mediate cellular responses to hormone-like ligands presented at the cell surface or to intracellular receptors. Her most recent research was focused on environmental and dietary mimetics for estrogens, and especially those that utilize novel nongenomic signaling pathways with distinct roles in important physiologic/pathogenic/therapeutic actions on multiple tissues.
