Chief Bioengineering & Biotechnology Innovations Officer, Vice Chair for Research, Charles H. And Mary Campbell Professor, Ophthalmology & Visual Sciences, UT Medical Branch at Galveston
Dr. Motamedi's work is focused on finding better ways to diagnose and treat eye diseases like retinopathy and macular degeneration. He uses state-of-the-art imaging technology to conduct preclinical and translational research. Currently his group is focused on the development of a multi-modal imaging platform for high-resolution cellular and molecular imaging of the retina. He is using nanoparticles to develop an imaging agent to study inflammation in ocular tissue. Another area of development is adaptive optics and its applications for ophthalmic imaging in which his team is applying technology developed by astronomers to look at the stars to examine individual photo receptors in the back of the eye to evaluate disease progression.
