At SBMI, I teach grant writing and scientific writing, and I collaborate with colleagues on research projects related to mobile health technologies and robotics. I also enjoy collaborating with faculty from the school of nursing, the school of public health and the medical school on projects in the domains of aging and disability, and community-based, long-term services and supports. I appreciate having the opportunity to be a part of the UTHealth CPRIT summer undergraduate fellowship program, the LoneStar LEND program and the Consortium on Aging. I frequently have the opportunity to lecture in various UTHealth classes, and to mentor and teach at other colleges, including Rice, UH, TWU, UTMB, and UT Austin. I find all my work stimulating and very rewarding. I am responsible for leading the ILRU program at TIRR Memorial Hermann, and I commit considerable effort to that task. I am also committed to volunteerism, working on the board of the Boy Scouts and serving, by appointment of the Mayor, on the board of the Metropolitan Transit Authority of Harris County (METRO). Given advancements in technology and medicine, there are boundless opportunities for applying new knowledge to benefit people with disabilities and older adults, and to support them in their goals of independence and non-institutional, community living. I am particularly excited about new ideas that we are exploring in the areas of telemedicine, medical self-management, robotics and long-term services community and home infrastructure development.
