One of our principle areas of interest has been genital and neonatal Herpes simplex virus infection. We are continuing to explore the pathogenesis of these infections as well conducting research on vaccines and chemoprophylactics for their prevention and antiviral agents for their treatment. As part of our research on the use of chemoprophylactics to protect the vaginal epithelium we have also begun studies with an important bacterial pathogen Chlamydia trachomatis.
