Theoretical, statistical, and analytical topics within the broad area of molecular evolution, in particular, elucidation of the relative roles of mutation and drift versus purifying selection in determining the pattern of nucleotide substitution, the dynamic and static features of the compositional architecture of genomes, and the relative fractions of functional and nonfunctional fractions of eukaryotic genomes. Dr. Dan Graur is also interested in the manner in which scientific results are communicated to the public.
