Several lines of molecular evidence correlate with the appearance of cancer metastasis, such as over-activation of receptor tyrosine kinases, loss of transcriptional factors, loss of responsiveness of steroid nuclear receptors, increased energy consumption and accumulation of drug resistant cancer cells. However, little is known about how these metastasis associated phenomena relate to each other, i.e. is there a core molecular mechanism that is responsible for initiating and maintaining these metastasis correlated changes?
